Mastering

You know what, i'm just gonna say it. Mastering is not as important as people make it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it IS important. But compared to mixing? Recording? Actual production decisions that DIRECTLY influence the sound, like arrangement? Pffft..

I think that mastering's rise to fame is two-fold. First, it's in the name! MASTERING. Sounds important, ominous, and has the word MASTER in it. How can it NOT be important? Secondly, it is the final process, people get anxious, it's the last chance to correct things,  your last line of defense before your music becomes one more click in the endless sea of modern music. You'd better hire a professional!

Truth is,  if the rest is not up to snuff, mastering is not gonna help you. Can it polish a proverbial turd? Kinda... But it's always gonna be a half-measure.  Ok, now that i got this out of my chest...

Mastering is amazing! As a process, it's extremely cool how you can shape things in a stereo channel, and change the voicing to suit the production. As discussed previously, if everything prior to it has been done correctly, mastering is like turning up the contrast on a screen, or like a nice pinch of sea salt on food! It amplifies and enhances what came before it. The 2 prerequisites are the listening environment (link to control room) so you are not fooling yourself, and taste, so you don't oversalt the food!

Luckily, we have an amazing control room in terms of translation, and as to our taste, well, you be the judge. There is lots of music on our "productions" page.

We use our analog gear(link), our plugins, or a combination of these to achieve the necessary result. Our AD/DA converters are prism ADA8XR, a very fine converter indeed.
